Hey guys,

As I'm sure you're aware there aren't many of these around and people don't really like them according to literally all the threads I've seen, in comes me looking for a cheap geared 125 on the sale pages of FB and up pops this "beauty" in my home town, I cannot stress how cheaply I bought this (200 bob), yeah I could have probably gotten something better for similar price but I thought what the heck lets have a fiddle and see where we land. I'm not here to make tonnes of power or do tuning guides, just here to share my adjustments to the bike as I go along. I have a Vespa PX mk1 as a "valuable" 125 so this sachs is literally for messing around with as someone who likes to have a little project on the side. There is no goal other than it to be better than when we started.

Here is the picture my brother shared to me :

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/16BA019A-615B-41A5-814D-6497BEE55617_zpsbspxyfuw.jpg

Potato quality and the ad didn't even list what bike it was, I jumped in and had it delivered the same day.

Hopefully you can see it now...

The keener eyed amongst you will notice many things, half the fairing is missing, some of it is cracked and broken, there are ebay special purple LED indicators and above all else, I didn't even know if it would start.

Ohhh and it was black originally, then some nugget painted it purple before the P/O painted it black again, lets just say it's a 10ft'er when it comes to looks. There's also random parts of the bike painted green and purple.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/3D127D32-043A-498B-91CA-36E5B66CAB20_zpswfnoepoi.jpg

First things first I suppose, lets chuck away all that lovely panel work and get the engine cleaned and fired up.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/DFF89DA6-F209-4582-B339-64EC414F8E39_zpstjotoced.jpg

A trip to halfords for a new battery, spark plug, oil and filter resulted in a bike that ran :) albeit not off of choke. I noticed the oil cooler pipe also started to leak so have gotten a replacement coming.

I then set about taking off the odd painted parts to get them sorted...I was also thinking about making a brat style seat, still unsure on this as of yet.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/ACA6DB1B-0063-4C9F-B149-5C066D80FC00_zpstzgks0bo.jpg

Lovely half gold hand painted spring.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/D9205B72-BCB9-427C-AACE-8F9E3A128D8A_zpsmpy3dsbp.jpg

Admittedly I could have painted the spring red, but since this is a budget build I just painted it using the leftovers of paint I had on the shelf, looks miles better

Here's me doing budget painting BLAAAAACK (MCM)

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/CA9ED04D-BAC7-4855-9B9F-DB35A7F0E12B_zpszkcb9i5d.jpg

I had some exhaust heatwrap left over so, used that too.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/957FBB6C-EA7F-491B-A89D-5B529D5FBC3F_zpsibb9p6je.jpg

Put it all back together and we had this...

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/E872A7AC-65F0-4BA9-B58E-FB4C2C0C3C17_zpsxnxoq6rk.jpg

Now I noticed the front brake master was leaking, looked up the specs and swapped on another grimeca I had sat around, just need to get myself a matching lever.

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/82FF5AB9-65E9-4940-8CEC-9A5DF9D658CF_zpsvnszsvkq.jpg

Ordered up a headlight and mounts, headlight came so I cable tied it on (mounts still havent arrived... Damn you cheap china parts!)

http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz281/The_Jakeria/Mobile%20Uploads/DAE7C0DF-A6D4-4518-99CA-D7FE23E6EC83_zpsxstxewin.jpg

As XTC owners will know, the original headlight consists of two bulbs, one for high, one for low, I created a new loom which now works with the singular dual filament bulb.

As of this weekend I decided that the black wasn't good enough and would be an embarrasment (surely having an XTC is bad enough ;) )

That's where we are as of right now.

As you're probably aware fellow XTC owner, XTC parts are hard come by, I couldn't be bothered to find the part of the airbox that holds the filter soooo... I got a PWK28, a 2stroke one with powerjet but that'll be blocked off and I'll fiddle with many jets to get the bike working with this carb instead of the Mikuni, why? Why not! The idea is to make the bike future proof as well as slightly cool to look at, if I know what parts are on it, I can replace and rebuild with ease should they break.

I know these bikes especially the 4t aren't built for massive power so all I'm going to do is get it running right on this carb, JJH needle, 108main and 42pilot is where I'll start.

Now I've ordered a few more bits we're at a grand total of £370, not bad so far.

If anyone needs the workshop manual for the XTC let me know and I'll send it to you, I have the file saved since old links to it have died, particularly important if you need the wiring diagram.

Soooooooo, a bit more work done and we're here...

these are the oil cooler lines I replaced.

Here's the headlight and indicator mount setup, I had to mount them back to front so they wouldn't bend inwards due to the width of the headlamp being about 2cm thinner than expected (hey it was cheap) making it look like the indicators are trying to lean forwards. You can't tell at all unless you're really looking hard.

I got it up and running on the new carb using an unstamped jet and atomiser with a 38 idle. I've got a proper pwk atomiser coming so I can fit the pwk jets, I don't know why the atomiser I have is much longer, too long to put the pwk jets on as it makes contact inside the carb fuel bowl.

Here's what mine looks like at current : (this doesn't fit and is unbranded with no size stamps on the main either)

This is what it should look like, fatter at the bottom allowing the large pwk mains to be screwed in, of which I have a large selection.

These are the pwk mains

I ordered a new atomiser, due sometime soon, probably saturday.

A short video of it running, there's a K&N on there now. It's a bit rich but not overly so, plug is black but not wet hopefully I can sort that once I know what main I'm using and then can set needle height etc etc.

In other news, to test brakes and running ability I went for a ride up and down my private drive and the rear shock has started to leak as we've got a brick section which put it through its paces. So not only was it painted badly, it was complete garbage after all, since second hand parts don't make sense because you'll never know how long they'll last on something like this, I've gone and blown the budget on a nice part. Fully adjustable, titanium, the works, it'll need a little modification to fit in terms of a longer rose joint or thread extension, nothing that'll jeopardize it's performance. Future proof as it's rebuild able unlike the standard affair as spares just don't exist when it comes to the nitty gritty.

I know this section of the forum is probably not visited very often but if you have an opinion please do share it :)

I haven't had time to look over the calipers and brakes yet for where they come from, your right with the parts bin bit I'd say they're the same discs as 90's Mito to be honest as the wheels are the same. The file is too big to attach here for the W.S.M, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll whip it along your way.

XTC rims are Grimeca's from mito1 or mito2 ( a bearing size difference among mito models). Sachs has only added a bracket-adapter-disc to take in the maybe nsc jc20 summink brakedisc.

all Mito discs are Brembo Floating models only (semi and full floaters Sp)

at least the XTC front brake caliber is Grimeca, and very much looks like Grimeca from AF1 Futura etc series, later Rs125 upto '05. This in mind if its same caliber or at least with same seals/pistons...

ill PM the e-mail addy of mine. it should be also in the profile page of mine. my pm-box is often full.....

it was pain to find the 2t xtc pdf's, and iirc i have only the parts list for it. if you happen also to know where to get the wsm for it 2t xtc....

Sent! I think you could get it from the same place I got the 4t one from, scribd, you have to sign up to a months free subscription, I just did that then cancelled it as soon as I'd gotten what I wanted.

Here's the old with the new, they're the same length just the way I'm holding them makes it look different.

The rear shock came today in all it's thaiwanese glory, fits quite well though short (I still need to measure the thread and get a proper extension ordered) I kinda wish I'd got one with a loose oil reservoir but hey ho doesn't matter that much. This is originally for a Honda MSX.

We'll see how it rides once the extension is sourced.
