Hi guys just want to know what you guys get top end with your bikes I have a 4dl rr with the big banana swing arm and running premix with too rich fuel ratio and a rich mixture and I got 140kph out of it today in the wind sorting the oil pump out this weekend and going to get some clean fuel in there and see what I can get.

do you have any tuning advice on how to get to 100mph? a guide on how to do port work yourself maybe? I know the belgarda's should top off at 100mph just need to know what to do to get my bike there. Also theres a ticking noise coming from my engine is this normal? It seems to be coming from gearbox area but on the one side of the bike it sounds like the top end and on the other side it sounds like its coming from the gearbox? what could it be? I dont want the bike to break as I really like it.

Ticking or rattle..??
100mph will depend on what jets you have in it and CDi....Someone correct me if i'm wrong on the Model No..A 4HE(same as 4DL but restricted Swiss Model)will pull around 140kph and Fully imported Italian model 4DL will do over 160/170kph

Check your chassis No on headstock to see what model you have...Even if it is a 4HE it still uses the 32mm carb but it has a 140 main jet instead of the 148 we have here.

its a 4dl.

when was the last rebuild? as rattleing can mean the piston is slapping around.

ahh crap bought bike 3 weeks ago guy said rebuild was about 2000km ago..he said he did full rebuild..do you think I should replace small end bearing? I checked it again now you start the bike let it idle for half a min then the ticking starts its sounds similar to the sound of a 4stroke tappets

well, it would sound to me like there is someting not quite right inside. i would measure the end gap on the rings, take the piston out, remove the rings, place the rings back inside the barrell, and measure with feeler gauges the distance between the points, this is the end gap,
this should be 0.3 - 0.45 mm

if they are too much, then a rebore is in order. along with a new piston, rings, and small end. i always replace the small end with any new piston. peace of mind.

this could also explain the sever lack in power that you should be experiencing. aas if your piston is worn due to bad runnign in on the previous owners part, it will have a severe effect on peformace later in its life,

ok i just looked on the piston box now its a wossner this are the numbers on the box

8006D100
Yamaha TZR 125 '93-97'
Rings: RDB5700 - 56.94
Pin: WP036 - Clip - CW16
Clearance: 0.06mm
Job:# 30199-27 / 04017

that is all the numbers in the wossner piston I have do you think it is the correct size? i suspect its a 57mm bore

4dl uses 3MB00 barrels and the standard bore size is 56mm any everytime it's rebored it goes oversize by.50mm..so 56mm,56.50mm,57mm,57.50mm.

Wossner is a better make of piston but also from what i've read a tighter tolerence between piston and barrel lining

rode bike today with clean petrol wow goes like stink now but still that tapping noise ill take exhaust off now and check for cylinder damage or piston damage and i think i must just replace the small end bearing and check the ring spacing for 0.35 mm spacing ..but if piston slap was the case wouldnt the piston have blowby marks??

#15 ·
hummm, there is a questionable score down thee piston. what esasut is that your using? as its not standard.

you can only see a small percentage of the internals, so there may be a spot where there is blow by. but.

what i would do now, is put it back together, get a long screw driver, start the bike up, place the pinty end of the screw driver against various parts of the engine, and place your ear against the handle. this way you should be able to pinpoint the exact location of the ticking. if its the small end/piston, it should be herd loudest fromt the barell, but you will have to check in various locations to make sure.

ok i see ill try that but i didnt take the barrel off thats just the view through the exhaust port.. I locked the pv open today by turning the ignition on (as the pics were taken with the ignition on and the pv is fully open) ...to test if i have more top end power with it this way then i know if i put the pv in the wrong way. ill check with the screw driver now and see where the noise comes from

#17 ·
well, if the pv is open with just the ignition on, it should be rotating the correct way, as they cycle goes, closed/open bike start / closed then opens/closes depending upon rev cycle.

ok put a screwdriver on various parts of the engine(against the gearbox, cylinder, head,pv cover) and as soon as i put it against the pv cover the ticking is the loudest..so im guessing its the pv knocking? or can it still be the bearing?

#20 ·
it could be the pv rattelling in the bushes. take it out and inspect it. making sire you DONT LOOSE THE PINS. take the exaust off for this, it will make splitting the pv much safer, and easier.

#22 ·
did that now seems to have helped but I can still only manage 140 kph but getting there the bike like stutters like it when you have blocked jets does it once every 5 seconds when full throttle like skips a beat

finally found a pipe that fits for my autolube! so autolube is finally set but me being such a genius, I broke my pv so still cant ride so I was wondering where can I have a sticker kit like this made for my bike? I want to go back to the origional colours.
