Hi All, I got round to fitting my EBC HH Pads on my front (Did rear last week) and have noticed something odd?

I went out for a ride after fitting; probably about 10 miles just to make sure they were ok. When I got back I went to make sure the blots were still the correct tightness and I caught my hand on the side of my disc which was so hot it almost burnt me lol?

Question is? should HH pads be hotter (That hot) under use?

BTW ? brakes work a treat now and much crisper

Discs do get f**king hot when under use. Its what they do...

if you think about the way brake disks work there griping onto metal disks they make ALOT of heat very quick

Yeah.. just seems like they got a lot hotter with these different pads... guess thats just how they work.

arn't u supposed to wear the pads in for a few miles i.e no harsh braking?

Thought it was best to start with gentle, then get progressivly harder. I did brake a lot but not very hard... will see how they go.

my discs are always hot from my riding wouldn't worry bout it pads and discs are supposed to hot

pads arnt really that much of an issue. on a new disc your ment to run the buggers in for upto 500 miles before giving them harsh treatment to help stop heatspots, cracking and warping.

If your disc is overly hot i would check that the pads arnt rubbing. ie go for a nice long ride somewhere where you dont need to use the brakes or can get away with using the rear for a few miles. then stop and check. should be fairly cool if the pads are floating correctly. if its really hot then you need to clean your calipers or think about servicing them.

The disc will only be too hot when it's glowing white under braking. Glowing red is fine

does anyone know where to get new pistons and seals for the front caliper? Any idea of price

google it, they're hard come by, but they are out there. try "brembo piston seals" and see what turns up. A used calliper will only be ?10 or ?20 on fleabay.

Yeah.. just seems like they got a lot hotter with these different pads... guess thats just how they work.

If the brakes working a lot better, that would indicate tht the pad is being gripped (for use of a better word) harder. Increased pressure = increased friction = increased temperature. Q.E.D. They're hotter cos they're working better.

Wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start to experience brake fade after a hard bit of braking. That would indicate that the pads are getting too hot under use, and could induce warping of the discs. Not pleasant!

Mine go spongy after a bit of hard use, though i think that's the oil heating up and softening the brake line, or something like.
