OK Folks,
The chatroom has finally arrived! At the moment, the web connection is still slightly flaky, with things such as no typing bar, but that will be resolved soon, once I can get a better java connection program working.
For the moment though, I'll run you through the basics:
1) When you first log in, pick your name VERY carefully, as that will be the name you will keep every time you log in.
2) Follow the main instructions when you log in (I know it's a lot of blurb the first time around, but you'll never see it again afterwards!).
3) If you are using the java connection, your terminal type will be 'ansi' when you're asked for it. Just type the word ansi and hit enter.
4) Once you are logged in, you will notice that you can't just send a message to the room. There is a reason for this. This is because running the chatroom as a command-based system allows for a lot more power. To say something (send a message to the room you are currently in), prefix your message with either the word say, or a single quote ('). You'll get used to it fairly quickly, and it allows for so much more power.
Examples of this would be:
say hello everyone, how are things?
Would tell everyone else logged in that you have asked 'hello everyone, how are things?'
It's not hard once you start to use it, you'll all love it, and I'll go through the more complex bits with you all later on. Things like the Battleships game, for example.
Finally, if you wish to send a private message to anyone, you just type the following:
tell player message
For example:
tell venture hello
Would send a private message saying 'hello' to my coder character, Venture.
I will be there as Venture mainly, because a lot of the time, I will be modifying, testing, or generally screwing about with the code. I will, however, make another character for myself called DJUnreal, just to avoid confusion. I suggest you all log in with your forum names, just for ease of use.
Anyway, enough of my blabbering. Please feel free to log on and catch me on the talker.
Oh, it's themed on Vampires as I originally wrote the talker for a friend of mine, and can't be bothered to strip out all the vampire code just yet. Who knows, we might even all turn into a bunch of bike-riding vampires some day anyway!!!
Java connection can be found at http://wombat.tirsek.com/~venture/
One more thing. PLEASE do not reply to this post.
