if you hold your back brake on hard, and the let the clutch out sharpish(but not enough to stall it)you will feel it take up the slack.no detrimental effects that i can think of, but it would not be very pleasent to ride, i should imagine

haynes states: "renewal of the bushes is required when there is excesive free play at the sprocket, often accompanied by snatch in the final drive"

it doesnt give anything in the fault diagnosis

the tzr haines is the only haines manual i have ever found to be accurate.if any of you ever have to change the ht leads on a mk.1 nova, dont look to the haines for which goes where, as it is 90 degrees out on the dizzy cap.took me fooking hours to suss it out!

could be anything, from worn gears, to your cush drive,i have never experienced a worn cush drive, so cant advise on that, but it seems most likely(and easiest to change)get a quote on some new rubbers, and if its cheap enough, change them anyway.

No, he made a sensible assumption - that the Haynes manual would be labelled up and his car wouldn't be non-standard.

Besides, you can't use your method if you gotta get the dizzy cap apart...
