Ok, this is driving me nuts. Had the bike about 8 months and no problems, then, the other week, it started up and died after a few seconds. The previous night it had been running fine. I left it a few days and then came back to it, after doing nothing and thought I'd give it another go. It started first kick. After that it was fine for a few days and then it refuses to run again. It did this for a week or so before I decided to pull it apart.

I took out the Carb, stripped and cleaned it out (there was nothing in there anyway), removed the tank, drained and cleaned it, removed the fuel filters and cleaned them etc. After that, it was perfect again, for about another 2 weeks and then the problems started again.

Today, it started up and died. Started again and died again, then wouldn't start. I removed the spark plug and it was sparking ok, was also getting fuel through. I tried bump starting and it got it going on the second attempt, rode home and it died at my gate (just before it died, it sounded like it was missing 1 in 4 sparks).

When I got it inside, I noticed when I'm kicking it over, I can hear a loud-ish clicking (it sounds like when you kick it over with the plug removed) and it won't start, OCF.

Now... Anyone have any ideas, please?

It could be arcing somewhere it shouldn't be. Check all electrical connections, particularly on the HT side (from the spark plug gap backwards). Look out for loose/wet/dirty/powdery corroded connections. If you've sprayed it liberally with WD40 or similar at some point it might have attracted dirt which could cause the voltage to travel outside of the lead. Kick it over with the tank and seat removed in the dark. Sounds crazy but if it's sparking somewhere you've got a good chance of seeing it!!

Check the battery as I have found starting the bike on a week battery is much harder, well this is what I have found on my bike. Also check all connectors for any lose wires, my bike would start for a second or 2 then die, found a wire from the neutral relay box was broken and a wire from the kill switch was broken. What condition was the spark plug in when you looked at it?
