Not sure if this is the right place to post this but im after some advice , im looking to ride upto wrexham on my bike and ive looked for information riding on the A55 and most answers point to yes its legal to ride with L plates on the A55,

but im just wanting to make sure or if any of yourselfs have ridden the A55 with L plates before? i have worked out two other routes to avoid the motorway but i know the A55 quite well so would be alot easier lol.

(btw dont just say take the L plates off lol read that in a few forums regarding this)

Thanks for any help

Andy.

ah well ive used google maps and i planned the way exlcuding motorways to be on the safe side...just would of been easier if it had an option where it would show where L plates arent allowed (if that makes sense lol) on the A55..and yeah im pritty sure its fine for me to ride along it..i know learner drivers can..and its a 125 which can do 70mph+ so im fine for speed limits haha

If it's an A road that's fine. Always thought it was funny that for the last year I could drive a car down the motorway but only recently I can ride a bike down it lol. Hate motorways anyway, not even been down it on the bike yet.

There's not even a motorway in Norfolk lol. It was quite sad, when i was riding home from center parcs i went the opposite direction just coz i was quite close and wanted to try riding on one.

Any road number that contains an M is a no-go. So for example the A55 is fine, if it was M55 that's no and also if it was A55(M) that would also be no. All other roads can be ridden on without a problem.

I don't really understand why you can't ride on them on Ls though, you can only go as fast on them as on a duel carrage way anyway. Although saying that, I've only ever seen one 125 on the motorway and it was at the side of the road on an RAC van

Motorways are easy as long as you know what your doing and you've got the confidence to go for a lane change when you need to, you've sometimes got to be willing to bully your way across and a learner might not, and if you f*ck up on a motorway you'll probably take a few people out with you, not to mention the delays etc. Better to keep em off imo, you might of been ok when you were a learner if you could drive but some people are probably shocking.

i accidently went onto a motorway once .
didnt have a phone on me , so i pulled over took my l plates of and carried on till the end of it .
stupid really but didnt have a clue on what else to do .

i understood the motorways quite well though from years of being on the back of my dads bike when i was a kid.

back on subject anyway , how long is the trip you plan on doing ?

Best thing to do tbh, just keep going and turn off at the next junction. Couple of my mates in their moped days went down the motorway on l's because they got lost lol.

Motorways are the easiest type of road to use for any vehicle. Whats easier than a straight road with really wide lanes and great visibility ?

If you cant use a motorway you must have problems.

Can use L platers on the A55, Used to use that going to various places in north & south wales and although it does merge with the M53 close to chester its perfectly rideable on L plates.

As stated, yes it's fine. I've done the A55 from Wrexham many a time when I was on L's

wow lol cheers for the help and advice ppl , i am quite confident on the roads but not in a c*cky way haha, so i should be alright, il still air on the side of caution as all bikers should, its umm roughly 35 miles there, and between 45minutes to an hour , itll sound sad but since its my first time on more of a main/big road il stick to the left side lane unless theres some stupidly slow person in that lane lol,

thanks again for the replys lol
