Lately im having trouble with my gears... it sometimes dont make it to 6th or 5th gear. instead it gets stuck in 4th of 5th. its very frustrating when theres cars behind me.
Bacsically the gear shiffter refuses to move up. only down. and only want to get it in to a high gear is by quickly putting it in to first then shift it back in while moving in 50 odd mph. but when i do that a really bad whinning noise comes from gear box so i dont like to do it.

im going to change gear oil sometime soon but i wonder if that will sort it out...

any suggestions?
Thankyou for reading,
Ray

lmfao and where you on about spraying that wd/40?? in the engine lol

sounds like what my nsr use to do mate, i use to knock it down though and it use to just go down then flick back up all the time, give it an oil change but when you empty the old oil out poor some new oil threw and out the bottom so it flushes all the crap out ok.

then see how you go with that

changed it today. not great oil but its new now.. i run oil through it like suggested.
as it was due a oil replacement, the oil that came out was all black.
after putting in new oil i realised the new oil is a 'cleansing oil' from shell, that wont do bad to the transmission will it?

>Whats your level of clutch lever free play
ehhm... free play? well theres the tension of the spring constantly.. or do you mean the length of travel to the biting point?

the bikes done 21000 miles, just had cyllinder, bottom gasket, head gasket etc changed.

Yeah when you pull the lever, whats the distance of play measured from the end of the lever till it "bites"... it should be 10mm...

Maybe you need a new clutch? Im changing mine and its at 12k mls...but Im doing a complete bike rebuild so I might as well,it might not of been neccesary buts its only ?50ish...

haha lmfao i know mate i was just muddling your words

but yeah your correct a nice fresh oil and filter change should do the job and if not then you may have a f*cked gear box if worse comes to worse and thats not good
ow no not good at all.

ok i found the biting point to be really long. and there wasnt even a cm for the biting point to start... plus i knew lately that the clutch was a bit .. soft.. does that mean i need a new one?
Not really... Take off the lower right fairing and adjust the cable till most of the free plat or looseness is gone... Its in the NSR manual if you havent download it already...When I got my bike it wouldnt go to neutral, thats what was wrong...

yup, check chain tension, youve done the oil. so adjust the clutch and cross your fingers. it may just be the clutch isnt opening far enough to engage the overdrive gear. will it go in clutchless, you know how to do clutchless upchanges ?
