i've now got my cylinder ( looks sweet ) and a new piston ( asso werke) from BDK RACE ENGINEERING which is based in ashwellthorpe norwich, he also showed me the size diffrence between my old piston (which i thought was a OE piston ) and my new one there was about 1mm-2mm diffrence so i dont know if anybody else knows that? also they do dyno runs ?30 an hour SWEET

so if anybody needs a good bike place around norwich way to get bike repaired they are the people ok

he showed the diffrence in height between the piston i got from mitomondo and a asso werke one and the asso one was roughly 1mm shorter and said the other one was not an OE part thus messing with the squish he knew alot about the cagiva and will now be my bikes best friend, when i get the bike back together it's going for a dyno run to sort it out

whats the best way the get the cylinder back yourself cause the only help i have at the mo is the missus and shes planting seeds in the greenhouse at mo

does the p.v need a gasket when i put it back on cheers guys

ok having trouble getting cylinder back on myself so whats the easiest way and checking the squish as i now have the correct OE parts should the squish need setting or will it just go together correctly?

also as im de-restricting the bike i now have to run in the piston again
whats the best way of doing this and whats the heating process all about can somebody give clear instructions on how to please thanks

cylinder is awkward to get on by yourself with the engine in the frame, i struggled with mine. It has to line up perfectly to go on, im not 100% sure what the dowels do but yes you do need them.

as for the squish, what size base gasket did u use?

Oonce rebuilt heat cycle it, which basically means start it up and let it idle/blip the throttle gently till its up to temp then keep it running for 5 mins or so at temperature. let it cool right down and repeat. do this about 3 times before riding the bike.

i got it in fine and the answer to how did i get the cylinder on well i used cable ties to pull the rings in and slid the barrel down easy. i have wiggled it and alsorts but it wont budge maybe putting some oil on the bolts will help it ?

it'll be ok if i can always find a way round things lol now what about the squish tha gasket i used is the thickest one out of the pack ( topend gasket set) was i right to do so? please dont say the barrel has to come off again also what will happen if it wrong ?

On a standard mito with standard parts you will find the thickest gasket will be safe.

Less base gasket = higher compression ratio and most power at lower revs, thicker base gasket = lower compression ratio and most power at higher revs, you will notice a difference in the way it produces its top-end power with the change in the gaskets.

Thats my understanding of it anyway.

The thicker the base gasket the easier on the engine as well as the higher the compression ratio the higher the force on the piston crown and thus the con-rod and bearings as well.

That might be slightly out but it shouldn't see you far wrong, CG knows this stuff better than me .....

well im running all standard as in cylinder, piston if thats what u mean but dont forget in de-restricting the bike aswell
so hope that don't change anything, got p.v on now so just waiting on carb and o-rings to arrive then get zorst done and im away. i cleaned the p.v and hope i put the blade back in right theres a dot on the blade and i've faced it upwards if thats right
