Hi guys,

ok, here's whats happened.

selling my bike soon so decided to give it a good clean and take some pics of it. avoided all the usual 'problem places' with the water ie fuel cap and spark plug.

started it up to check all was working and it struggled to start. i eventually got it started and it ran fine with no problems. turned it off and tried to restart, again wouldnt start. doesnt seem to be spark plug and i drained the carb to be sure so its not water in fuel.

my thoughts are turning to water on some electrics, as i must admit i wasnt overly cautious when cleaning near these bits. any idea where the electrics are located for starting the bike, is it the black box (cdi unit??) under tank? can i just dry it out you think?

any help much appreciated (apart from buy an rs or mito)

ps....anyone wanna buy a bike

took tank off and charged battery, checked spark plug, drained carb. checked all electrical wiring to see if something had come loose but everything is working as it should, it just wont start. Friend seems to think its electrical as it happend after i washed it, so water has got into something.

how do i bump start? never done it before.

cheers K3Z

Well the XTC is a c*nt to bump if your short, but if you can get a friend to push you while your on it, throw it into 1st and try to start it with a rolling start, pretty hard to do if your a novice, i am sure some of the lads on here would be more help.

When you try to start it does it just flood ? what sounds is it making, loud ticking ? etc.

easiest way i've found to bump start is to have the bike in second gear and have the clutch lever squeezed, ignition on, get rolling then let out the clutch, with a little bit of acelerator the bike should fire up, may be a good idea to have the choke open aswell, i reckon on second gear as there will be less chance of the rear wheel just locking up

good luck dude,

( oh yeah, thanks for the help about my bike, just needed petrol....didn't realise i had to fill it up more than once! seemed to never run out )

ok will try it, its not gonna leap forward is it? just a little worried as have never done it before.

where is the solenoid located?

dunno where the solonoid is located, and the bike shouldn't leap forward if it's in second gear as it will have less torque, if it feels like it will then just squeeze the clutch again, and you'll be ok

remember, only use a little revs as you may go bollocking off down the road : )

i'm alive, didnt actually attempt the bump start cos it was raining (no balls i know)

what i have noticed is the headlights arent on, but all other lights are working. i've checked the fuses, everything seems ok.

gonna look at it tomorrow (beer has priority tonight), will check solonoid, anything else i need to look at, cant beleive a bit of water from cleaning it has done this!!!

dry the coil when it gets wet on the xtc there is no chance of it going

what i did was wrap it in plastic (a plastic bag will do) but still make sure the contacts make contact with the frame otherwise the coil wont sent a spark to the plug.

after i did this my bike never stops in the rain or wen i wash it this is a problem with the xtc
