Mito runs ok but eventually doesnt start of the starter as bettery is flat (running with lights on a normal). Its a new battery and the fuses seem to be ok (checking the two that live under the main seat). Anyway, i ve bought and fitted a new reg / rectifier (second hand but assured it worked). Still not convinced shes charging. Any ideas where else to look? Havent owned it long so anything can be on the cards.

As a check i have been reving it up when warm in the garage and checking for the lights getting a bit brighter with each medium / high rev. Am i correct to expect to see this happen.

Any advice ppreciated guys.

Welcome to ther forum bigrinks

If you have a search you'll see that charging is a common issue on the mito, especially when its cold and even more especially if the bike isnt used everyday.

You say you got a new battery - what type is it? could be the prob. If you can, avoid riding around with your lights on - it will help.

What type of mito have you got?? pics etc

Hi !

13~14,5 V at 6000rpm says w.s.m

Any1 ever tryed battery YB4L-B at their mito's ?? it's used in several 125cc cagiva's like W8's/K7's/SC's. the point in my story is that they all have the same electric/charging system..

I think that the Cagiva's charging system would take better care about YB4L-B than 12N9-4B-1. would be easyer for the charging system to keep the YB4L-B fully charged than 12N9-4B-1

am i totally wrong or aint it good thing for the battery to have a good charge in it to make it's life long..Dunno how to explain it in english..

bye

Thanks for advice so far guys, but im looking for something more solid to follow.

Ive checked it with the meter and there is no change when engine running / reved up. Def a fault somewhere.

So battery is new (doesnt matter what type or number- any 12v lead acid for a 125 will work- at least to charge, maybe need longer harder runs to fully charge some batterys) and the Reg/rect has been changed. Fuses are fine.

Anything else to check / change?

Thanks

So the charging system is doing nothing at all then unless your doing the test incorrectly.

Are you putting your test meter between the + wire and the + terminal when the wire is removed or just putting oyur leads on the + and - terminals with the wires still attached ?

The workshop manual tells you how to go about testing this although its as clear as mud.

It says disconnect the + wire and test between the + wire and the positive battery terminal and then says go from + to - so i dont know which will give you the result you want. Maybe its worded wrongly, try both.

Im definately checking it correctly. Ive had a few bikes and know my way about them.

So far the only thing for sure seems to be that the charging system is doing nothing! Im thinking of stripping the flywheel of next as im guessing the coil windings are damaged, either that or the wiring so brittle ive got a break somewhere?. Its it just me or are these bikes junk?????? Ive got a long long list of constant silly faults and i dont know how many electrical components ive replaced. Definately the worst 125 ive owned :-(

Sorry for the moan!

An ideas?

The first test (interrupting the + wire) will give you what stator is putting out.

The second test just gives you the battery voltage, unless they mean to connect it without the battery there.

i also faced the same problem lately.. already replace the old battery to a new battery and solenoid.. but still remain using the old relay.. and she still won't start, sound like she didn't get the full power from the battery.. is it the relay problem or?? already whack and smack the relay..but still get the same result haha

not yet checking the rectifier whether it hot or cold

am using YTX7..

I had the same problem with the last mito i owned.
changed battery, changed stator, still no difference.
turned out i was getting the relevant voltage at the 2 yellow wires (something like 50v ac, iirc) but it wasnt getting through the block connector.
i cut it off & used bullet connectors.charging system was fine after that.
took me a few days to figure that one out,lol
cheers,

my problem settle today!

this thing the main problem!!

starter relay..

i open the cover and squeeze/press the metal that when i press the push start button, it will swayed up and down.. so that's mean the metal didn't touch/sway hard enough to make the starter run perfectly..so i decide to put some layer of paper on it..SETTLE..!!

BUT... does it will effect my starter motor??

The mito uses a relay to switch a solenoid to start the bike.

When i got home i saw the - wire from the alternator was disconnected. Problem solved!
