I may have an option on an 89 vintage tzr.

amongst the various niggles and gripes it has the following key issue.

it will apparantly start and tick over BUT it will not hold high revs and is somewhat smokey!

is this likely to be something straight forward like a carb clean/swap or symptomatic of more serious issues??

It could be any number of things that would cause that, it could be something very simple or something very expensive. Without checking it out it is difficult to suggest anything.

there can be nothing that serious, just make sure it reflects in the price you pay, really cant be sure what is wrong by the symptoms you gave, but you should expect an amount of smoke, and if engine is cold it probably wouldnt run very sweet.you may find that somone has tried to move the powervalve,to increase power, but moved it the wrong way, giving a sh*t top end.but as i said, there is not much on these engines that can go seriously wrong, and they dont cost that much to fix if you are capable of weilding a spanner.there is always plenty of help on this forum should you need it!

Aye, that'd be the one. Not too far from my gaff so certainly worth considering. Whats peoples opinion on what it's worth on face value??

yeah, The guy in the ad says it's in poor cosmetic nick and not running right.
HOWEVER as a cheap little project this is one of the few I've particularly got my eye on as long as it stays cheap!

yep, price is racking up though (already at ?180). bearing in mind the work that needs doing to get it running properly AND the poor paintwork AND the very nice RS125 that went for only ?620 a couple of nights ago I might hold out for a better deal!!

Woohoo, bet your smiling
I was when I got my bike! ?200 isn't so bad, hope it's a simple problem with the bike and by the way finding a manual for it would be a good start.

Good luck,

Mike

Nice one, thanks chaps. I was sort of hoping a fresh tank of fuel and a quick carb strip and clean would sort out the rough running issues.
Haynes manual ordered. bike arriving sunday afternoon.
If I can work out how I'll get some amusing paint job pictures up for your entertainment.

im sure it wont take much work to get it fixed up. mine is seemingly indestructable, it actually runs bettwe when i thrash the sh*t outta it. although its battery is flat so i did some extreme riding to get it charged a bit. 60mph in 4th all the time did the trick.

i guess they last a long time but when they go, they go....like when mine will seize at 80mph on monday on the 110 mile trip home......

lol

check out my new semi-mobile shed! wondering if I've bit off more than I can chew!! suffice to say it aint going anywhere near the road for some time yet!!

In the flesh, up close, it looks even worse, the paint on the plastic panels looks like fifth generation emulsion and is so bad I daren't put up pictures for fear of causing offence

some people name their bikes after sexy ladies, I think I shall name mine medusa as clearly Claudia or Naomi is out of the question
