hi all, i'm new to this forum/ site thingy,

had my Sachs for a couple of months ( second hand about a year old ) and i think the rev counter is sticking at about 8000 rpm, it still revs freely past that but the needle doesn't move, which is a bit worrying cos i may blow it up

it only seems to happen when i have started the bike with the choke on, and even then it doesn't do it all the time, any ideas?

cheers people

sorry, still getting over the richardbolton post, ah what fun that was, wonder if he ever did buy a bike, or maybe thought what a bunch of arguing children we are and never returned to this forum.

or maybe he has gone to the rs forum...ooooh so your arguments against the xtc really DO work!!

cheers dude, i think it only happens in second gear, guess i'll just have to keep an ear out for the pitch of the engine, or ride a bit more carefully, nah i'll just keep my ears open

To be honest i dont watch the rev counter anymore, i think you get to know your bike after a while.

not sure if this helps but occasionally when a small amount of water has got into the carb, my rev counter kept sticking, drained it and sorted it out, so you could try that, simple job with the drain screw under carb.

cheers for the water in the carb idea, got a few things to have a look at now, just got back from a burn up the purley way and something is kinda f*cked now....the bike won't pull nicely at all, only if it gets passed 5000rpm ( i know i shouldn't watch the rev counter ) maybe i should put some more petrol in it? ha ha

def check the carb, i think the xtc is prone to water problems. had something similar a few months ago when wouldnt rev past 4000rpm...was simply water in the carb or maybe something sticking, like the float, but always cured by a quick drain. so thats the first thing i check nowadays.

have you just tried draining it a few times using the drain screw, that might sort it?

i'll try that tonight, just got back from lunch when i started getting the problem, ok dumb question but here goes

where is this drain screw, cos i'm guessing the carb isn't like the webbers on my escort?

its directly underneath the carb, no need to take any fairings off. if you look at the carb from the left side of the bike you should see a small screw at the bottom of the carb. simply turn the fuel off and get a long philips screwdriver and loosen it till the fuel drains out completely.

then re-tighten it, not too much, and turn the fuel back on. i do this a few times when been having trouble and it seems to sort it out.

Hope it sorts it for you and its nothing more serious!

cheers bro, i'll have a look at that tonight, only had the bike for a month so it's all a bit new to me, the only other bike i've had to compare it to was a honda c90 so no comparison really, that bike was hardcore!

i only been biking for about 9 months, i've had some probs with mine, mostly due to water but to be honest i've enjoyed learning how to fix stuff and most people on here are very helpful (come back wannamod).

My only advice is to keep the bike away from water....only then it seems its trouble free riding
