Hi

I went out on my TZR125 this morning, and it was running really well!

I went about 3 miles and started going down a really big hill at about 70mph, and half way down the engine cuts out and the back wheel locked....

I managed to get it down the hill with the back wheel locked, and it then started to free wheel with the clutch in at the bottom.

The engine will run until you start putting it into gear, which it then trys to cut out again.

Do you think the clutch needs replacing?
or is it the gearbox?

or something else?

please help!

right, so what your saying, is that when you put it in gear with the engine runing it locks the back wheel and stalls the engine?

if you put it in gear with the engine off, and pull the clutch in, can you push it?
if you can then it will be your gearbox thats shagged, well more than likely anyway.

when you say the engine cuts out, is it like turning they key off kinda stopping, or a rather immediate clunk and it stops dead with a jolt?

If I start it and put it into first or second and pull away its ok, its when I change gear, after a few seconds it then happens.....

But I really dont understand it at all.....I wondered if the clutch is about buggered, and it doesnt always work properly

I can push it with the clutch in and the engine running or not running whilst in gear....its really when I start to release the clutch that I get problems.....

thats why I wondered if the clutch is shot!

clutches dont tend to be that fickle, but it shouldnt be ruled out.best bet is to drain your oil, andtake the clutch cover off and actually inspect the clutch.if you cant see anything immediaterly wrong with it then its your gearbox

Yes i agree, It sounds like you need to see whats going on in there. It doesn't sound like the clutch, but it really could be anything. look for any lumps of metal in your gear oil when you drain it

how very strange, changed the tranny oil recently?

sounds like your gearbox, but i could be wrong.

Get friendly with your spanner again

I have a mint TZR bottom end if you need the box from it. I am going to strip it and put it all on ebay anyway

I changed the gearbox oil about 2 weeks ago.....

and thanks motoxmayhem.....I might take you up on the gearbox offer.....

depends on what is actually wrong when I get the side off, and have checked the clutch etc.....

Well I have a complete clutch for it aswell thats mint. See what you need and let me know. The engine had only done 1400 miles from new
