i was out today on my bike (ZX6r)and for the first time ever have run the bike down real low in the petrol department.

anyway when i rev it it sounds just the same (no nasty knocking /broken noises)but the revs seem to 'hang' up there for a second.
this is the same when low rev riding, drop revs and pull clutch and the revs stay up/ even increase just momentarily before dropping. if i ride it hard then the revs seem to drop straight down without this issue, no hanging and no increase. (this would appear to be a carb problem?? possibly pulled some sh*t from my low low tank?)

anyway i turned my fuel to reserve and i thought for a second it was cured and so filled up, alas it still does it so i dont think its a fuel starving probling of which i i also had a suspision of.

anyway any advice please?

could be an air leak somewhere, check your vacum pipes.

can't think what else it could be, deffinatly sounds like air getting in where it shouldn't to me.

how's your idle?

has it raised at all? does it hang?

it idles fine, about 1200.. but doesnt hover up or down.. its just this minor 'hang' i notice it more riding slowly and changing gear as its bloody annoying. NO KANING IT EVERYWHERE ISNT AN OPTION!!. also its notiocable when 'blipping' the throttle, it used to just shoot up and as you let off the throttle, drop straight back down.. but now for that split second it stays up.. thought it could possibly be throttle cable BUT it doesnt seem to do it at al at higher rev riding.

i know very little about these bikes as all work has been done by a garage and i was a 2502t chap before turning 4t last year.

Can you drain the float bowls off on the zx6??

huh?? your asking a guy a question like that who knows nothing about mechanics?? what are they? are they the .. i'm not even gonna ask of fear of being wrong and looking more of a twonk!!

i may take you up on that, i am just waitng to hear from a mate in retford whose friend round the corner has some carb balancing equipment. he is going to mention it to him and see if he can strip them down and balance them for me in one go (as its due an minor service).

i am hoping he will get back to me soon as my misses is hounding me to take her shopping tomorrow.
