recently found the cranckcase cover leaking oil. its the right hand side case where i have changed the clutch about a month ago. at first i didnt notice any leak but the past few days iv noticed splodges of oil all over the garage floor. put a rag my the bottom of the cranckcase cover and there oil there so its coming from there. one thing i was told to try is set the torque wrench to the correct setting (12nm) and go over evrey bolt checking the torque. i tried this on 2 of the bolts and i can still get the bolt to turn and no clicking from the torque wrench. when i put the cranckase cover back on i torqued all the bolts up so it seems strange why there may be loose. i stopped as i didnt want to strip the threads as id be well and truely fooked then. what do i do keep tightening until i get to 12nm ?

Yes. Do not worry too much about stripping the threads, aslong as you are not going mental tight doing them up it will be fine.

Are you sure you did the bolts up in the right order and also did you seat the gasket properly without tearing it?

i did the bolts up in a criscrocss pattern and i dont think it leaked at first just the past few days there are oil splodges evreywhere. i will tighten them to 12nm and see if it stops leaking

Have you set the wrench properly? 12Nm is hardly anything at all something is definitely wrong. If the bolt was stripped it would just keep spinning and not bite on the thread.

it hasent stripped then. i checked some of the other bolts and the torque wrench clicked straight away. funny thing i checked if theres been any more leaking and it seems to have gone so il see what happens if it leaks over the next few days il have to take the case of and change the gasket

Is it definitely the crankcase cover. Its amazing where oil can come from. I had a few drips on the ktm and turned out to be coming from an oil temperature sensor in the head and running down the side of the barrel.

What im saying is just because there is oil around the cover doesnt mean thats where it is from.

Get yourself down to your local garage, and get yourself a tin of leaktrace. It's a spray that turns white, and well...You leak trace with it. May help find the source of where the oil is actually coming from.
